It was a sunny and humid Aloha Friday at Waialae Country Club as the PGA TOUR’s best teed it up for Round 2 of the Sony Open In Hawaii. When the day began Hawaii’s, Brent Grant and Jared Sawada both began the day at +2 and a solid round would leave them with a chance to make the projected weekend cut of either -1 or -2, while Peter Jung was looking to gain valuable experience in Round 2 as the chances of him making it to the weekend, were very low.
However, for the Hawaii contingent, things did not go well. Jared Sawada lead the threesome with Hawaii ties finishing at +3 (143) while 2014 Moanalua Graduate Brent Grant finished at +5 (145) and Maryknoll Junior Peter Jung wrapped up his Sony Open at +22 (162). All 3 did not make the weekend cut which was -2.
Despite things not going well for the Hawaii players, the action continues this weekend at Waialae. Going into Saturday’s Third Round Matt Kuchar is in the lead at -14. Andrew Putnam is one stroke behind at -13 while Chez Reavie and Stuart Cink both share Third Place at -10.
