A heartbreaking battle the University of Hawaii Men’s basketball team faced against UC Irvine. UC Irvine’s Max Hazzard’s jumper with 8.2 seconds left in overtime stole the win away from the Bows. It was a strong fight to the finish, but just wasn’t enough as the Bows fell 75-74. This would be the Bows second straight lose making their record 11-7 and 2-2 in the Big West.
It looked like the Bows could of taken home a win with a 14-point lead in the second half with less than 5 minutes left, but UC Irvine closed the gap hitting 6-of-8 final field goal shots forcing the game into overtime.
Hawaii did have an opportunity when senior guard Sheriff Drammeh made a 3-pointer to give Hawaii the chance to win with 73-74 and less than a minute left. But here came UC Irvine’s Max Hazzard’s shot to end the game.
Senior forward Jack Purchase had a game high of 18-points and 7-rebounds, junior forward Zigmars Raimo hit 16-points and junior guard Leland Green making 10-points. Hawaii overall hit 11-of-29 above the arch and 19-of-25 free throws.
The Rainbow Warriors look to redeem themselves this Saturday Jan. 26 at the Stan Sheriff Center as they take on UC Davis. Tip-off will be at 7:00 pm HT.
